All Door Car

I found this poor old car in midst of rusting to death near the Browder Yard which is near the intersection of Hampton Road and Commerce Street.  This yard is adjacent to the Union Pacific double track main between Dallas and Ft. Worth.  Unless you know the yard is there you would not likely find it.  The day I took these pictures two switchers were busy shuffling cars around.  Several days before these pictures were taken I came across this yard and took a picture of a Maintenance Of Way ballast tamper.  In the background was this rusty old thing and I did not even realize to was a train car.  A knowledgeable friend pointed out that it was an All Door car.

A write up about this unusual piece of railroad equipment appeared in the NMRA, LSR, Cowcatcher Division newsletter issue Vol2, No 2, Mar/Apr 2005.  Publisher Tim Blackwell, and Copy Editor John Dycus.
